The mTOQ-5 (Migraine Treatment Optimization Questionnaire) enables to assess if your migraine attack therapy is appropriate.

In a few questions, it helps determine if your treatment meets your needs or if you should rather discuss with your healthcare provider on how to maximize your migraine management treatment.

What is the purpose of the mTOQ-5?


Even if you are taking migraine control medication, it might not provide adequate pain relief.

This test enables to assess:

  • Pain relief promptness;
  • The duration of effect;
  • Your ability to resume your day-to-day activities;
  • Therapy tolerance;
  • Your trust level in medication.

  • Answer the questions according to your typical experience of the past 4 weeks.
  • For each question, select the answer that best represents most of your migraine attacks.

Result Interpretation


Each answer ‘’Yes’’ is worth 1 point.

  • 5/5: Your therapy seems to adequately meet your needs.
  • Less than 5/5: Certain aspects of your therapy could be improved. A discussion with your pharmacist or doctor might be required.

2. Does one dose of your migraine medication usually relieve your headache and keep it away for at least 24 hours?
3. Are you quickly able to return to your normal activities (i.e. work, family, leisure, social activities) after taking your migraine medication?
4. Is your migraine medication well tolerated (without causing major unwanted side effects)?
5. Are you comfortable enough with your medication to be able to plan daily activities?
